I was surfing Netflix and realized there were 2 Sharknado movies I haven’t seen yet! So I decided to binge the 4th and 5th installment of the masterpiece series. I also opened a bottle of 2012 Morgon Beaujolais I’ve been holding onto for such an occasion. This wine is made by Jean-Paul Thevenet and imported by Kermit Lynch (known for importing awesome wines). Morgon is one of the 10 named villages making up the Cru Beaujolais, which is the top tier wine from the region.
Nerd Alert: Morgan has unique soil conditions that can cause a very distinct wine from the other Beaujolais regions. The soil is made up of a mix of granite, schist, volcanic stones, and heavy clay rich in iron. These factors lead to a deeper, earthier wine than neighboring regions within Beaujolais; the final wine can be aged, which most Beaujolais cannot.
The wine is a pale ruby color with aromas of red fruit, strawberry, spice and some earthiness. The taste is rich and juicy, with strawberry, raspberry, spice and minerality. Everything is balanced just right, the acid and body hold up to the fruit and juice. The wine is luscious and smooth all the way to the long finish, a great example of Beaujolais! Will drink this one again for sure.
